The Talks
The HTTP Swiss-Army Knife: Routing on the Edge – Will Pimblett
Will, a Principal Software Engineer, kicked things off with a deep dive into edge workers and how Runa uses Cloudflare’s edge functions to route traffic intelligently. From rapid deployments to safe failure strategies, Will showed how edge computing can give engineering teams flexibility on the critical path.
Key insight: Edge workers turn routing into an independent, intelligent layer, making scale not just possible, but practical.
Stop Doing Big Bang Releases for Your AWS Step Functions – Anita Ernszt
Next up, Senior Site Reliability Engineer Anita shared how we’ve rethought serverless deployments. Instead of risky “big bang” releases, we now roll out gradually - testing safely in production, spotting issues early, and dramatically reducing incidents.
Key insight: Guardrails and gradual rollouts don’t slow you down, they give you the confidence to move faster.
How We Automated Our Way Out of Incident Chaos – Danny Waite & Dimash Danabek
Closing the talks, Danny and Dimash revealed how automation and observability transformed our incident response. By cutting noise, standardizing workflows, and surfacing only the signals that matter, they turned firefighting into foresight.
Key insight: Data-backed patterns reveal systemic issues - automation makes solving them scalable.
Breakouts & Networking
Talks sparked deeper debates in breakout rooms - ranging from when to embrace edge architectures, to how to balance speed with safety, to why preventing burnout is a scaling challenge, not just a personal one.
