We have all been watching the grotesque violence routinely perpetrated by the authorities against black communities, leading to the needless deaths of Eric Garner, Ahmaud Aubrey, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd to name but a few. Whole communities are suffering because of the systematic racism and prejudice deeply ingrained in our institutions.
We condemn racism and prejudice in all forms.
The sad thing is that this is not new, this is a continuum. The black community faces a consistent racial bias, a consistent denial of opportunities, consistent over policing, consistent over incarceration, and a willful ignorance of the double standards our societies apply.
And it is enough. For too long we have sat idly by and accepted it. We will no longer stay silent.
The essence of two of our company values are to ‘challenge what you’re presented with’ and to ‘do the right thing’.
In that spirit here is what we are doing to challenge the status quo and contribute to effecting positive change.
What Runa is doing
- Educating the team. We have crafted a recommended reading list to enable our employees to be better educated on these matters, which they can purchase and be reimbursed.
- We are vetting our supply chain to ensure that the providers we use also support the Black Lives Matter Cause
- We have made donations to ACLU and NAACP
- We are ensuring that we continue to recruit on an equal opportunities basis without bias or favoritism.
We care deeply for our communities, we care about fighting injustices wherever they are. We are one team, one community, one global society, and it is our responsibility to take care of each other. Let’s speak up.
